Walking
We’ve been in our new house for almost 2 months now, and I am loving our neighborhood. One of the criteria on my list of “wants” was walkability. It’s important for me to have the ability to walk out of the garage with the stroller and set out on a walk. We’ve lived in several different neighborhoods throughout the years, and some neighborhoods just don’t have the infrastructure to take a nice, long walk without a bunch of cars zooming by (not very fun or safe). Our new neighborhood has been great, and it’s already made a huge impact on my physical and mental health.
What I love most is I am able to tailor my walk every day. I can take a short one or a long one, keep it flat or challenge myself with some hills. I love that I can take the kids along in the stroller so they can get some fresh air (and usually a nap). I have a sedentary job, so getting some physical exercise is critical to feeling well. Plus getting some sunshine (when it’s around) and simply being outside is also great for physical wellbeing.
At this point in my post-partum journey, I’m ready to start reclaiming my body how I can, and that means making my physical health a priority. Walking is already proving to be a critical component of my weekly routine. I’m also making it a priority to eat better, drink less, and overall work towards feeling my best. I will add strength training and yoga when possible, but I am appreciative of how accessible walking has become in our new home.
