My Good Buddy Keith
I met Keith when I moved back to Fremont shortly after my 30th birthday. I had just ended a relationship and was blessed with a beautiful home to live in. I rented a room from my friend’s aunt, and I mostly had the space to myself since she only visited one weekend a month. The house was in Niles, a really cute neighborhood in Fremont. It was a nice chapter of my life. I spent my time working, going to yoga, hanging out with friends when I could, and I finished grad school during this time as well.
However, there were many times when I felt lonely. My dog Posey kept me company — we would take walks down on the Alameda Creek trail and sunbathe together in the backyard. But being a single person, you often spend time alone, no matter how many friends you have. I started frequenting some of the local spots downtown and slowly began to make friends in the community. Keith was one of those friends. I would see him around town, and he had the warmest, funniest personality. I would see him shuttling his son and hanging out with others in the neighborhood. Every now and then we would have “porch beers” and enjoy the view of the school across the street while we talked. Keith is an entrepreneur and a creator. He likes to make beautiful things, from wallets, to brooms, to photos.
I was fortunate to see him this past weekend here in Humboldt County. Keith and his wife are Humboldt alums, and they came to visit with their son. Keith offered to do a family photo session of us on the beach. Professional pictures are one of those necessary pains in life. I never quite enjoy the thought of them, but I am always so happy with the results. They end up being treasured photos to have throughout the years. So, we shuttled the kids out to the beach on Saturday evening, played around in the sand, and took some beautiful photos in the sunset. I’m thankful for friends like Keith, people you meet along the way in life who make your life fuller. He’s a genuine person and a good friend. And, if you have any photography needs and you live in the Bay Area, you should contact him! He made my 3-year old son laugh the entire time during our session, so he’s great with adults and children.
