Walking

We’ve been in our new house for about 2 months now, and I am loving our new neighborhood. When we were searching for our home one of the criteria on my list of “wants” was walkability. It’s important for me to have the ability to step out of the garage with the stroller and immediately set out on a walk. We’ve lived in several different neighborhoods throughout the years and some just don’t have the infrastructure to easily take a long walk without a bunch of cars zooming by (not very fun or safe). Our new neighborhood has been great, and it’s already made a huge impact on my physical and mental health.

What I love most is that I am able to tailor my walk every day. I can take a short one or a long one, keep it flat or challenge myself with some hills. I love that I can take the kids along in the stroller so they can get some fresh air (and usually a nap). I have a sedentary job, so getting some physical exercise daily is critical to feeling well. Plus getting some sunshine (when it’s around) and simply being outside is also great for physical and mental wellbeing.

At this point in my post-partum journey, I’m ready to start reclaiming my body how I can, and that means making my physical health a priority. Walking is already proving to be a critical component of my weekly routine. I’m also making it a priority to eat better, drink less alcohol, and find any additional ways I can work towards feeling my best. I add strength training and yoga when possible, but with the kids it can be challenging to find the free time. So I am extra appreciative of how accessible walking has become in our new home.
